Part 3 - Gwacheon National Science Museum, Outdoor Exhibits

The Gwacheon National Science Museum also has outdoor exhibitions.  At the center is the Planetarium in a beautiful white dome, just a few steps from the main museum’s back door.

Cameras were not allowed during the show but this was how the inside looks like.

The only drawback was that, there was no English translation… During the duration of the show, the most that we did was to enjoy and appreciate the effects that had a real feel of looking through the skies.

To the right of the Planetarium is the transportation and logistics display.  It has a railroad and of course a light rail on exhibit showcasing the evolution of transportation in South Korea.

Then at the back of the transportation exhibit is the Dinosaur Park.  Because the flurry hasn’t subsided, the kiddos didn’t had the chance to see all dinosaur figures.

Much more, the mini playground beside the Dinosaur Park wedged their attention.

To the left of the Planetarium is the Space World where the actual archetype of the KSR III rocket was on display.  It was so huge and more gigantic that the Planetarium and the Space World Hall.

Seeing a rocket up close was already a wow; how much more if we’ve experienced the Space World tour which happened to have ended by then.  We missed the interactive starship and the galaxy station.  Well…

At the back of the Space World is the Ecological Area composed of the Insectarium Ecological House and the Eco-Park.  As the flurry continued to rise, we forewent the Eco-Park tour and just settled with the indoor Ecological House.

On display were insects of different species from various kingdoms.

Then there goes the spiders and my arachnophobic daughter ably controlled her fears…

The house also has a mini butterfly garden with live ones aside from the framed butterflies of different variants.

There were other outdoor exhibits that we missed like the History Plaza, the Astronomical Observatory and the Geological Park.  Like the Space World tour that we muffed earlier, there’s always a next time.  And by then, we’ll devour more time and do research ahead.

On our way back to the main museum, I paused by an information board. It was only then that I got a look of the place we were in.  The museum architecture was like a flying object, a ship, a spaceship… How I wished we have the same back home..
